URGENT vigil today at 4pm to stop Child M deportation in Gorton

This afternoon (Monday 13 September) there is to be a vigil to defend Child M and family from immediate removal.

Child M and his family have been served with an order that will see them forcibly returned to Iran. There they face persecution as they are accused of circulating the Salman Rushdie book ‘The Satanic Verses’.

Despite his young age, he has endured several incidents of inhumane treatment at the hands of immigration officials, including a 3 week period spent at Yarl’s Wood detention centre. It emerged that he was also held for 8 hours by himself on the day of the family’s detention last year.

A campaign is fronted by teachers and children from Child M’s primary school in Broughton. They say he and his family will not be safe if returned to Iran.
