The price being paid for these new homes in Blackley seems excessive. It seems to reflect the market value if the completed property were to be sold on the open market. This again shows that the council are happy to throw money at developers without any consideration for real value for money.

There were also over 13,000 empty properties in Manchester in 2008, more than 2,500 owned by the Council and housing associations (http://www.emptyhomes.com/usefulresources/stats/nw08.htm). The rest are privately owned.

There was a story about six months back in the MEN that in the city centre developers were turning their unsold/unrented places into hotel apartments instead to rake in some pretty hefty profits.
