And so to New York, for the celebrity-studded launch of the ‘Tony Blair Faith Foundation’, dedicated to promoting “religious faith….[to] help unite the World and shape its direction for the better.” Of course. Who better to pour oil on troubled theological waters than the architect of a set of policies which even that most Blairite of think-tanks, Demos, says has “driven a wedge” between British Muslims and the wider community?

On a more prosaic note, it’s nice to see that the Foundation is already being managed with the impeccable oversight and transparency you’d expect from someone who reportedly used public funds to pay for a £10,000 kitchen refit, and yet couldn’t pay his water bill on time. According to Charity Commission records, the Foundation hasn’t even found a full complement of trustees. They’ve had to supplement two ‘real’ trustees – a lawyer and a director of favourite Tory PR firm M&C Saatchi – with an off-the-shelf company, Tyrolese (Directors) Ltd, just to make up the numbers.

Meanwhile we’d really like to know about the finances and directors of the charitable company behind all this strenuous pan-global peacemaking. Unfortunately the good people of the TB FF have clearly all been so rushed off their feet teaching every child in Africa to say their prayers, that they’ve yet to file their first annual return with the UK’s Companies House. Even though, like all companies, they have a statutory obligation to have done this by 30 April.

Solid work.
