Community radio station All FM 96.9 celebrates its 15th birthday with an open day and fundraiser on Saturday 25th July at its studio in Levenshulme.
Not only do visitors get a chance to take a peek inside the studios at one of the longest running community stations in the country, everyone interested in hosting their own radio show can enter a prize draw and the lucky winner will receive free training and get his or her own live show. Other prizes include a meal for two, Bestival tickets and tickets to the Royal Exchange Theatre.
All FM is a volunteer-led organisation, with over hundred volunteers presenting and producing shows and helping to run the station who brings diverse and multicultural radio to over 14,000 local FM listeners per day, 7 days a week. There are specific shows for the South Asian, Afro Caribbean, Polish, and Irish communities, disabled and young people.
The team at All FM train over a hundred people every year from all walks of life to produce radio shows. Former All FM DJs include Paul Heaton from Beautiful South and Radio 1Xtra DJ Yasmin Evans.
The programme on the day will feature songs on the stoop, Eric’s 1-hour comedy school, a stoop sale with cakes and coffee and a CD sale. Special radio shows will be broadcast for 24 hours on the open day, including a show by one of the founders Phil Korbel.
