Former head of Manchester Advice on radio this afternoon

Article published: Monday, March 7th 2011

Former Head of Manchester Advice Barbara Guest will appear on Peace FM between 2-4pm afternoon, Monday 7 March, to talk about the threat posed by the closure to the free Council-run service.

Manchester Advice has been earmarked for closure as the Council struggles to slash around a quarter from its budget. Campaigners and workers in the city’s advice sector say that abolition of the centre will have a detrimental impact on the lives of the thousands of people it helps each year in areas including housing, welfare benefits, employment and debt.

Last week at a Town Hall meeting Barbara Guest outlined to councillors the ‘devastating’ effect that removal of these services would cause. However it appears that the Council will push ahead with its plans as a full meeting of Manchester’s councillors meet this Wednesday morning to vote on the budget proposal for the next financial year.

Barbara will be appearing on Peace FM, 90.1 FM between 2-4pm. You can listen live here: http://www.peacefm.co.uk/
