Funding cut to park and playground construction in Manchester

Over a quarter of a million pounds is to be pulled from funding for playgrounds and parks across Manchester. Following the coalition’s spending review, Education secretary Michale Gove withdrew £252,000 in grants to the Council under the Playbuilder scheme – while the rest is no longer to be ringfenced. Consequently the remaining £380,000 designated for developing community playgrounds in the city will not be safe from future cuts.
