Get down to Hulme this weekend for Summer Community events!
Article published: Friday, July 30th 2010
This weekend Hulme sees two days of festivities organised by local groups.
On Saturday July 31 Hulme Community Garden Centre presents their Summer Party. The annual event will include live music and a fine selection of locally-sourced food and vegetables as well as an array of arts and crafts on show.
Spencer Cloud & The Range Brothers will launch their new album with a live performance and a delectable mix of others artists such as The Bigsby Brothers, Bailey Sisters and the Dubland Woodland DJs are also to appear.
The event is free and will take place at 28 Old Birley Street M15 5RG. The fun will begin at 11am and go on until 7pm.
Then on Sunday August 1 there is the Break The Banks Community BBQ, organised by local activists preparing for this summer’s Camp for Climate Change in Edinburgh. As well as skill-sharing and building on the radical environmental movement, this year’s Camp will target the Royal Bank of Scotland – a bank of which the majority is owned by the public and yet which remains one of the world’s largest investors in fossil fuel extraction.
The aim of the BBQ to raise awareness of climate change issues and the destructive environmental and economic damage wrought by the banks.
Everyone is invited down to the BBQ for music, food films, stalls, Climate Camp info, celidh dancing and as they say on their website “to show that we won’t keep paying for a trashed future!”
People are invited to arrive from 3pm at Birley Fields, near Stretford Road in Hulme.
