Hands up all those who enjoyed the launch night. That'll be everyone then.

The Attic on Manchesters Oxford Rd was full to the rafters for the joint Shift / Mule Launch party. One acoustic act, three bands and a DJ graced the stage from eight till late and they all went down a treat.

Robert John kicked off the night, a thankless task (especially after a big night out on Wednesday). He started playing to a handful of people but the venue soon began to fill up (they must of heard his husky tones bouncing down Oxford Rd). His soulful repertoire was a great way to start the night.

Second up were Warrington foursome, Billy Davro (that’s Billy not Bobby). They really pulled in the support and their travelling fans were treated to a great performance. They brightened up the night with some beautiful melodies and I’m sure they won over the home crowd.

Next to play were newly formed Hail Brethren. This “old school” EMO band (i.e. no eye make up, dyed black hair or crying) swear they have only had four practices but they must be lying. It was powerful and heavy but the guitar melodies shone through. We loved them. More gigs please.

So Cash for Your Stories had a tough act(s) to follow. I’m told that these guys don’t like playing in Manchester but they seemed to enjoy this gig. It was an eclectic set with dashes of street punk, hardcore and folk rock (maybe). Technically “not perfect” according to their drummer, but they really got the crowd going with hand clapping in Ruth Ellis and a sing a long for Only the Hills Have Eyes for You. Every one seemed to enjoy their set, hopefully they’ll be playing more gigs in Manchester!

Last but not least was Hot Milk DJ ‘Riddim Master’ . He treated us to some roots and reggae. He kept it steady and knocked out the classics. Everyone has to go to Hot Milk. It’s every last Thursday of the month at the Attic the next one is January 24th…..

Thanks to everyone who played, came to watch and to those who picked up a paper or magazine. We hope you enjoy them.

A big thanks to those special people who organised the night. Especially those who ran equipment round, sorted out the sound, designed posters and sorted out bands from Warrington. It was a great team effort. Lets do it again soon.
