This Tuesday: Levenshulme social centre holds ‘Ideas Night’

South Manchester community centre Levenshulme Inspire is holding an ‘Ideas Night’ this Tuesday evening. Members of the public are invited to share their views for how the non-profit venue can develop as a host for local activities, entertainment and workshops.

“We want to be the FC United of Levenshulme, showing off the talent of local people and getting the community together to generate a thriving Levenshulme scene” said Kate Chappell, director of the centre and newly elected councillor for neighbouring Rusholme, in a reference to Manchester’s fan-owned co-operative football club.

Founded on the renovated site of Levenshulme United Reformed Church on Stockport Road, since opening last autumn the community hub provides a venue for group activities including Latin American dance nights, beginners’ English lessons, relaxation and meditation classes and regular film screenings.

A ‘social enterprise’, Levenshulme Inspire is funded through room hire and collaborates with Bubble Café, which offers employment and volunteering opportunities for people with mental health issues. The meeting will start 7pm Tuesday May 10.
