Manchester activist witnesses Gaza shooting

Article published: Tuesday, April 27th 2010

Manchester campaigner Adie Mormech was this week witness to the shooting of a fellow reporter in the Gaza strip.

Bianca Zammit, from Malta, recorded her own shooting and the shootings of Palestinian woman Hind Al Akra (22) and teenager Nidal Al Naji (18) at a non-violent demonstration on the eastern border with Israel.

The incident occurred as 150 people marched from the Palestinian town of Maghazi to protest against the expansion of Israeli territory into Palestinian land.

Witnesses claim that the soldiers fired live ammunition at unarmed protesters from point blank range. The most severely injured was a 22 year Hind of the Union of Palestinian Women, shot in the stomach. Bianca and an 18 year old man were both shot in the thigh, all three are in a stable condition.
