A day of activity, including egg painting, seed-sowing, live music and dancing to celebrate to arrival of Spring, has been organised by Friends of Platt Fields. The event is planned to run between one and four in the afternoon.

Also involved are members of the Manchester Indian Association, who will be celebrating Holi in the traditional Indian way: with the throwing of paint and pigment.

Anna Smith, one of the event’s organisers, said, ‘the tradition of it is that everyone comes out and throws colour around, and by the end of the day everyone’s totally drenched in paint.

‘It’s totally amazing. We’ve got an array of different cultures coming together, and celebrating together’.

‘You don’t have to wear anything special, but it looks amazing if you’re wearing a white boiler suit or a scrappy old white shirt because of  the nature of the paint, it just scatters and looks amazing against white.’

To coincide with International Women’s day the music and dancing will be performed exclusively by women, but all are welcome.

The event will run from 1-4pm by the Lakeside. The park is accessible from several entrances along the Fallowfield end of Wilsmlow Road.
