Salford Council have paid up to £1,900 a day for ‘efficiency consultants’, according to details released by the Salford Star.
Unison Secretary, Dave Prentis, said of the spending: “Freedom of information requests submitted by UNISON in 2008 showed that councils spent at least £800m a year on consultants, and another £1.5bn a year on agency staff. This money would be better spent protecting services”.
Costs from KPMG have totalled almost £1.5 million to date, mainly for services that would make ‘efficiencies’ in the Council’s spending, including job losses and advice on restructuring management.
