Salford NDC staff given 10 per cent payrise incentive
Article published: Tuesday, June 15th 2010
Staff at New Deal for Communities (NDC) in Salford are being awarded a 10 per cent pay increase.
This is despite the NDC – a £53 million ten year government regeneration project in Lower Kersal and Charlestown – recently coming under fire for failing to deliver results. Last year the Manchester Independent Economic Review indicated that there was “no significant association between NDC designation and improvement”.
Furthermore, the NDC project has been scrutinised for spending a greater percentage of its budget on ‘Management and Administration’ (11 per cent) than on ‘Building Communities’ (7 per cent), ‘Crime and Community Safety’ (7 per cent) and ‘Health’ (6 per cent). A report by NDC themselves revealed a massive £4 million spent on Management and Administration in 2008 alone.
The payrise has been justified by Salford City Council by declaring that the programme, due to finish next year, must retain its leadership and staff capacity until the program is finished and the 10 per cent increase to “certain staff” may offer them an incentive not to jump ship.
