Summer Harvest Picnic in Rochdale

Article published: Saturday, August 14th 2010

Earth Café and the Environmental Sustainability Action Forum will be hosting a Summer Harvest Picnic on 22 August at the Partnership House in Sparrowhill, Rochdale. The event will host a range of activist groups including Urban Farm Planters, Fair for All, Rochdale Freegle and the World Development Movement to offer a day of information and products around the theme of sustainability.

Earth Café was set up in January to provide an Environmental Centre in which visitors can enjoy locally sourced, Fair Trade produce whilst learning about environmental lifestyle choices. The group also promotes a range of local art and artists with an environmental theme as well providing a sustainable play area for children.

In February the group launched the Environmental Sustainability Action Forum, hosting speakers and workshops to engage and inform the local community about environmental sustainability and was recently nominated for the Manchester Foodie Award, celebrating effective use of food within a community project. The group has also recently been awarded £1000 from the Seed Fund of the Community Foundation.

“The promotion of sustainable food is one aspect of what the earth Café want to achieve as well as contributing to a healthy and vibrant low-carbon economy and local jobs”, said Earth Café Director, Helen McCarthy.
